Yesterday's female was joined by another this morning. Because they are both so "new" it is possible they hatched here or nearby. It has been a long time since I have had 2 monarchs here at the same time.
Because of the extreme heat forecast I was out early watering down the gardens. It was a wonderful display of Ruby throated and Rufous hummers, many yellow and black swallowtails, pipevines, little sulphurs, checkerspots, and tiny little iridescent blue butterflies. I suspect they were all nectaring early and will disappear to the shadows to escape the heat by midday. Me too!
