I've discovered that early instars love to eat the tender green leaves that cover the common milkweed blossoms. So once in a while I take a blossom head. This a.m. while washing a blossom head, a 2nd instar's head was sticking out of the cluster of blossoms. It doesn't know how close it was to going down the drain.
