Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 07/19/2017

Number: 1

It has been several weeks since I’ve seen any Monarch butterflies locally. I pass several fields on my way to and from work that have common milkweed growing in them, but today (7/19/2017) is the first time I have spotted a Monarch butterfly in any of them. The butterfly I saw at about 7:30 PM was flying a rapid zigzag pattern generally westbound back and forth across a field along Seibert Road (40.8679 N, -778345 W). It was as if it was hurriedly looking for something, but it never landed anywhere, even though there are numerous common milkweed plants scattered about the field, with many in bloom. The sky was mostly sunny, the temperature was approximately 80 F degrees, and the air was calm.
