Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 07/29/2017

Number: 2

Most Saturday’s we have lunch with my Mother, who is a resident in the Centre Crest nursing facility in Bellefonte, PA. When the weather permits, after lunch, we will often sit outside in the residents’ fenced-in garden on the south side of the building. Volunteers maintain the garden, which includes Shasta Daisies, Coneflowers, both Common and Swamp Milkweeds, and numerous other flowering and vegetable plants. Today we saw two Monarch butterflies, both female, flying back and forth across the garden, often stopping on leaves of some of the Common Milkweeds. Before we left, I looked under the leaves of a few of the Common Milkweed plants and spotted several eggs, which I will describe in a separate report.
This was at about 1:15 PM, with scattered clouds, a temperature of 71F degrees, and a breeze from the NNE at about 15 mph (although things were less windy inside the garden because of the surrounding fence and building).
