July report for Monarch Waystation #5300. Sightings for July are of six females and two males. These are ones I've seen in the backyard garden, with butterflies guzzling nectar from the A. incarnata and females leaving only a small number of eggs from what I could tell. They all looked very fresh and I did not see a few of them oviposit, so assume they were not gravid. The meadow patch consists of over a hundred A. speciosa plants and I've not searched any of them for eggs/larvae, so don't know if the females have been laying eggs out there or not. I've collected a total of fifteen, including three which have already pupated. I like this approach and know last year they were able to reproduce without my intervention, which is the ultimate goal of my habitat project.
