From Monarch Way-station 8511:
I have been looking for eggs or larvae on my swamp milkweed. A couple of weeks ago I reported seeing a couple of monarch butterflies (flitting around together).
It was evening, yesterday, and I was about to give up looking. I gave a glance back and my eyes caught the shape of a larva resting under one of my swamp milkweed leaves!!! I looked some more and found another even smaller larva.
I returned on August 1 to take the photo. You can see my Monarch Oasis Way Station habitat. I put these swamp milkweed plants along my small woodland pond just three years ago. The second year, I also saw a monarch larva eating the flower buds.
So, it does not take years to attract monarchs to your garden and land if you plant milkweed!!!
