Backyard milkweed plot with mixed flowers was productive this year. Saw SIMULTANEOUSLY 6 monarchs on wing. Key planting in northern ohio appears to be dense, mixed age, swamp milkweed. The catepillars use the first year plants under the semishade of second and maybe third year milkweed. Presence of Joe Pye weed, butterflybush, Phlox, etc. may keep the young butterflies close through August.
