4 monarch butterflies seen along Bestul Road east of Amherst Junction during a 20-minute bike ride. We take this ride every year on the second weekend in August. There were also tiger swallowtails and Vanessa species. This is much different from the past few years, when we have seen only a few cabbage whites. (Earlier in the day, we weren't seeing butterflies, but the temperature was in the low 50's.)
