Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/11/2017

Number: 3

2 female and 1 male ruby throated hummingbirds active at the nectar feeders this morning. 1 female (or could be immature male) was pretty small and might have been born this summer. There is another male around but haven't seen him yet today.

The male spotted this morning comes to drink from one particular feeder each morning around 6:45 a.m. give or take a couple minutes. He's easy to identify as he has distinctive dark markings on his chest. I think he's a migrator as I did not see him this summer until several days ago.

Hummers have spent most of the summer feeding on flowers but lately have switched primarily to nectar feeders. But they still like the bee balm.

Baltimore orioles have come back after nesting and are seeing them on the nectar feeders again. Won't be long now and orioles will be gone.
