Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 08/12/2017

Number: 1

I was at the Middlesex Greenway in Metuchen, NJ this morning. There was heavy rain early AM. Wasn't expecting it, but I saw the ruby throated hummingbird for a few seconds (the one that I've been seeing the past few days). I did a little research and now I know why I have seen a couple of them at this location. There is a lot of this wild plant growing along this stretch of the walkway. It is called jewel weed. The small orange flowers are highly attractive to hummingbirds. Will try to purchase the seeds or the plant next season.
