Much monarch activity on dike roads surrounding water impoundment. Top & sides of dikes mowed July 28. Monarchs using new growth (5-12" high) of common milkweed to ovisposit. One side of impoundment is monarch habitat study area alongside dike road.

Monarch adults observed this week seem to be smaller than typical size at many locations, possibly due to shorter day length and cooler weather, especially nights.
