Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/14/2017

Number: 7

This has been a BANNER YEAR for Monarchs up here! I've seen more this year than the last 10 combined. Saw the first in June (last 5 years haven't seen until late July-early August, and then only a handful). We've been seeing 4-5 a day in our 5 acre hayfield, there were 7 working the new milkweed coming up after hay was cut. Have been seeing a few pairs mating in the last week. all in all a great year, almost close to what I remember from my childhood insect collecting days 60 years ago (!). On the flip side not nearly as many Black and Tiger Swallowtails and cabbage and sulfurs as normal.
