A perfectly formed healthy female is nectaring on the tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica). She arrived this afternoon around 3:00 pm CT. She is clearly not an individual I've previously seen in the garden since she has no damage on her right hind wing or other features which distinguished the other two monarchs. Also noteworthy is she displays no breeding behavior and appears to be larger than the breeding females. The two females were reported to Journey North earlier this week on 8-14-17. They were spotted nectaring and laying eggs mostly on the tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) and to a lesser extent laying eggs on the swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) next to it. To my knowledge, neither of those females has visited the garden spaces since Tuesday, 8-15-17.
