I was surprised to notice three caterpillars on my PARSLEY plant when we returned from our 1-month-long vacation. Our milkweed had been severely attacked by aphids so was on it’s last leg. I’ve never heard of monarchs laying eggs on a parsley plant! Is this normal? Can I leave the potted plant outdoor and feel safe they they will make it through their life cycle? We have a lot of lizards in Florida that appear to love eating the little eggs and tiny caterpillars, so we’ve never been able to watch the process. Wondering if the lizards don’t like the sent of parsley and that’s why they don’t bother them?

Editor's note: Swallowtail larva
