Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 08/21/2017

Number: 3

Ruby throat sub adult males slowly coming in and so courious.. They feed between 7:45 a.m. until 9 a.m. Then go hide out in trees until evening since it is so hot, unless a new one drops in. Then one tries to chase it briefly out. Another one was flying in circular motion chasing a small fly which was hysterical trying to catch it.
Still, another one tried out a Dr. JB feeder hovering back and forth while sticking beak in it, like it was a strange yellow flower for sure...hard.
Lastly the hummer that went to Mexican sunflower which I have never grown before was amazing to watch how he got nectar out of such a tiny central tube.
What makes all the hard garden work worthwhile in this heat watering was the hummer that went to Fuschia, 'Texas skull cap' in hanging basket in photo.
