Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/07/2017

Number: 5

Hummingbirds galore! It seems some time over the past few weeks, we've had two little ones added to our herd. Prior to that we saw both male and female, mainly the male, but seemingly taking turns, perched in the same strategic location in a live oak tree. In years past, we saw hummingbirds come to our back yard and then leave close to sun down for some bigger trees farther away. This year it seems like the live oak is finally big enough to provide a home. Anyway, the youngsters were a very welcome addition. You can tell they're babies by the way they fly; not as graceful or self-assured as Mom and Dad. This has made me wonder whether the Dads defend the territory that contains a nest...
