Monarch Waystation #271 reports 2 males and one female monarch seen at various times as I worked in the garden and observed the partial solar eclipse. Female was seen laying eggs on Swamp, Purple, and Tropical milkweeds, may have laid eggs on Butterflyweed or Common as well. Small sprouts of common and purple milkweeds look very similar when young. The 2 males nectared and attempted courtship with female all through the day. Nectar plants favored were Tropical milkweed, Tithonia, Lantana and Butterflyweed; others available included Upland Ironweed, Rudbeckia hirta, Zinnia Zahara Fire, Coreopsis tinctoria and C. grandiflora.
