Tuesday, multiple sightings of a solitary HB today. Feeding on a HB feeder and blue guarnaritica salvia.
Regularly see two monarchs feasting on zinnias and azratum.
Observed a cabbage white feeding on nectar of a catnip plant. Usually have multiple cabbage whites in the yard
The last couple of rains, heat and humidity seems to have brought many bugs to the gardens. There are a lot of what may be skippers. Finally, I saw a VERY strange bug which I have seen only once 2-3 years ago in my garden here. It's tail looks like that of a mermaid or a hummingbird's when the lower feathers are fanned out a bit. It has the head of a big bug, light it color and a beak to suck nectar like a HB. It's wings while flying to drink nectar from flowers, look like a HB's. It is a little smaller but the one I saw before was larger than this one. What the heck IS IT??? It was sipping on nectar from the red salvia. I was unable to follow it long. it disappeared into the garden. Craziest looking thing!
thank you for sharing the website which identifies the butterflies. That helps so much. If you have any idea what the bug but might be please let me know. Thanks for doing this website! It's fun to watch for them
I have attached 3 or 4 photos.did you get all of them?
