Number: 1

I planted 7 tropical milkweed and 2 narrowleaf milkweed plants in 2016. The narrowleaf died back in the fall, and I cut back the tropical a few days before Halloween to encourage the monarchs to migrate. The tropical started growing back in March and the narrowleaf started sprouting in April (2017). We had 15 large caterpillars in mid-April. The ants, flies and spiders started reducing the quantity of caterpillars after that, so I planted a flat of narrowleaf, saved 2016 tropical seeds and butterfly, bee and hummingbird seed packs on our hill in May. We usually see 2 - 6 Monarchs at a time each day and lots of Monarch mating. The monarchs lay eggs on the milkweed, and they spend a lot of time feeding on our Mexican Sunflower.
