This is my first report of the summer but not my first sighting. It has been such a busy time I didn't get my reports in. I did see lots of monarchs this year in every stage in my yard and other places in our valley. This year has been the most we have seen and very active. I contribute it to my milkweed abundance and not spraying.
Starting in June I would spot 3 to 5 adult butterflies in my yard at one time. Then a lull but then I would spot them laying eggs, then the caterpillar and adult.
Today 3 adults, two of which were breeding in the branches of my elm tree.
