One new adult male monarch arrived in the garden today. He appears small although healthy. His coloring is a deep orange and he has a mark--perhaps a loss of scales--on the left upper wing close to the thorax. This is not a wing defect or injury; his flight is strong, and he displays normal male territorial patrolling behavior.
This monarch and another larger male I have previously reported have been singly and together in the garden today, intermittently attempting to drive the other out of the territory.
