Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/01/2017

Number: 1

A monarch eclosed yesterday but the entire process was very unusual and long. It took 15 minutes to drop down and it seemed to be stuck for awhile (OE?). When it dropped down, its abdomen was not extended, rather it was near normal size and its wings were wrinkled and long -- not the normal tiny wings. It struggled to inflate those wings maybe because the abdomen was near normal size. This phase took about an hour. At any rate, I didn't want to take a chance on it having OE and with no kit, I made the VERY hard decision for the benefit of the others.
