The attached photo shows only one of the two 5 instar Monarch caterpillars I saw today at the Elizaville Diner Deli in Elizaville, NY. Whereas I have been able to take pix of both cats in the same photo for previous submissions, today the larger (and I believe older) of the two seemed to be exploring the garden for a place to molt into Chrysalis form. It fed all day yesterday but began exploring last evening, though I last saw it on milkweed. My last sighting of this cat today was at noon and it was on the ground among decayed leaves at the base of a very yound oak tree and milkweed plant. The younger caterpillar spent the entire day today munching on milkweed. I expect it to go exploring soon as well. I cleared out some spider webs that might have snared them. Many dangers in the garden.
