Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 09/07/2017

Number: 3

Only 1 adult, male Ruby this afternoon eating @ Cigar plant so my #'s reflect total hummers not total male hummers. ID him by Binoculars. Not sure if he is our Summer male as he wasn't his branch taking control of the patio feeder so this could be a migrating one. We still have the very shy female without a tail except for 2 tiny ones growing out. She likes to stay away from all of the others & then hide in a shady sheltered area. She slips in & out to feeder after the rest fly out of yard chasing ea.other. Without her tail she does not have a "flight" sound. She seems to be getting along fine. Still have 2 Sub-males. The Sub-male that has been relying heavily on the Mexican sunflowers was having some problems finding enough pollen on them. He rejected the ones that were just opened flat & pretty but centers still tight without pollen. Rejected the others near their end blooming time. It seemed that he only found about 5-6 that were just right. With nights in 60's the sunflowers are not opening up fast enough 2 really put pollen out. Very noticeable difference in sunflower pollen production w nights cooler. They r hitting Cypress Vine as it is blooming more.
