Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/07/2017

Number: 1

Approximately 17:00 while searching for Monarch larva to share with the grade ones at Essex Public school my son spotted an adult flying nearby. We watched her struggle against the strong West wind of an approaching storm. She found shelter about 3 metres up in a juniper bush in the lee of the wind. Temperature dropped to around 15 C as storm blew in. Location is an abandoned homesite on North Talbot Road left fallow surrounded by farm fields. Over the years I have used it as a source for collecting Common Milkweed leaves to feed captive larvae. Nice group of Goldenrod next to the grove of trees where the Monarch was resting. Thank you to the farmer for leaving this habitat.
