Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/09/2017

Number: 2

One medium size 5th instar was sighted near the top of a tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica). It appears to be in good health. In the attached picture, one can see the caterpillar in the upper left and the previously reported egg-laying female slightly lower in the picture and to the right.

Also distanced from the caterpillar referenced above by about 20' is a second almost mature 5th instar caterpillar on common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca). That caterpillar also appears healthy. Interestingly, it was slyly situated between two leaves, ostensibly avoiding harm's way while eating. Smart caterpillar.

It's a busy day in the garden. May it continue.
