Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/10/2017

Number: 1

At the Elizaville Deli garden... I have been observing this 5th instar caterpillar for a few days as it fattened up on milkweed. Yesterday afternoon it left the milkweed and began wandering. It spent a cool night on the leaf of a young red oak but became very active mid morning exploring the garden in search of a place to pupate. I lost track of it when it went under thick garden vegetation. ANother cat pupated in the sae garden yesterday evening....The weather has been unseasonably cool lately...highs in upper 60s, lows in mid to upper 40s. It's forecast to warm up in a couple days.
