Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/10/2017

Number: 1

Earlier today (9/10/17 at 1:18 PM) I reported having briefly spotted a Monarch butterfly zipping westward above the ramp here at University Park Airport (SCE) in State College, PA., riding a 7 mph tailwind coming from 50 degrees east of north.

Later this afternoon (about 2:30 PM) I spotted what I’ll assume was a different Monarch butterfly.   This one was flitting low and close to the terminal – probably to avoid the breeze from the east – in a generally eastward direction.   Definitely not headed toward Mexico.

At that time the sky was still mostly sunny, albeit maybe a bit cloudier than earlier, with:

  • Temperature 64F
  • Humidity 49%
  • Dewpoint 45F
  • Pressure 30.43 inches
  • Wind at 6 mph from 40 degrees east of north.
