I saw one hummingbird come down and check out the feeding situation, nothing in the area except thistles. No others came down from the huge flock circling around in the drafts in the front range that I saw. It went back up to the flock and suddenly they all formed up headed out. That part of Colorado was very dry for august and september. It was in the zone between the plains and the higher foothills. 5 miles away they were getting soaked during that period in the Conifer area whereas the hills in Littleton were dry. I have never seen such a gathering of humming birds like that before. It would have been amazing to see thousands of hummers to come down and feed.
