Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/13/2017

Number: 4

4 female ruby throats were chasing each other early this morning. Feeding seems to be fairly even between flowers (salvias and firecrackers) and nectar feeders. Have not seen a noticeable increase in migrating hummers this year. Around this time we should have 10-12 hummers. They might be coming thru 1 or 2 at a time and not staying long. Or it could be because neighbor cut down a linden tree that was favorite perch for the hummers. That might have changed the number of hummers we see at one time.

Saw the funniest antic by a hummer today. It darted in and out of a cedar tree several times. I thought it was catching insects. All of a sudden another hummer came bursting out. I have never seen a hummer perch in a cedar tree before!
