At 11:30am I saw a monarch nectaring on butterfly pentas flowers in our front yard, but it was quickly chased away by a hummingbird.
At noon, I went walking down to our bottomland where there are a lot of passion flowers and Gulf fritillary butterflies. I spotted a female monarch (amidst the other orange butterflies). She seemed to be looking for milkweed flying in a back and forth pattern. Then a male monarch came and they flew off rapidly through the trees. Quite soon she was back, again doing a seeking milkweed pattern.
At 6:30pm a bright male monarch was flying briskly around the house and checking the flowers, but not nectaring, just speedily sailing around.
