Our male who faithfully guards our deck and 3 feeders had been eating very frequently. He would run off several other males, anytime they came close, sometimes even the females. I guess he was readying to leave because this is the last day that I saw him. The next day there was a large female in his guard position, she is more tolerant of others feeding.
