Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/16/2017

Number: 2

In addition to the 2 male monarchs I reported this morning, there are 2 female monarchs in the garden who arrived around noon. One female is worn and is missing the entirety of her left hind wing. She is also laying eggs and intermittently feeding on the tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica). The second female is smaller and is brightly colored. Her wing condition is excellent, and her overall appearance suggests she could be a newly-eclosed butterfly. She is not laying eggs and is feeding on the topical milkweed blooms.
