Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/17/2017

Number: 3

Removed the feeder on the Front Porch 2 c if I had any hummers left. I went out back sit & within 10-15 mins. I saw 2 hummers get into a chase with 1 going in other direction. So I went back inside 2 replace feeder on Front porch. Before I opened the door I looked out the window 2 C if I noticed any activity. There was a hummer sitting on top of the ant guard. Then he took a sip of the water. I have seen them sip plain water but in the past they decide that is not the sugar water they were looking for but not this hummer. He sat there and drank 5 sips of water & looked content as if he actually liked it. It was a hot day of 96 degree's so maybe he needed a little more hydration. He must have been thirsty. After he flew away I promptly replaced the feeder. He looks to be a newer Juvi...Has tiny black dots on his throat but no flecks yet. I have never seen one do this before. I am glad I keep my ant guards washed & clean. Maybe there are some hummer's that would like a slightly weaker sugar water mix of 6:1 or 5:1 on these very hot days. No reason we cannot offer both.
