In the late afternoon I saw a female monarch nectaring on some lantana flowers. She had faded, fragile-looking wings ~ one of which was torn. Maybe she had been through Hurricane Harvey a couple of weeks ago. After a bit of nectaring she was summarily chased off by a painted lady butterfly, who shooed her away for quite some distance. I was glad to see her and thankful she had gotten at least a few sips of nectar.
