I was surprised to see four Monarchs on my walk today, as I had not seen more than one at any time in eastern Kansas or Missouri for several days. I saw this one nectaring seriously on Purple Thistle. She kept flying from one bloom to the next, trying to find her best sip of nectar. I saw two others nectaring on Butterfly Bush and a final one flying south with determination to reach its destination. It seems peak migration may be later this year in the Midwest.
