Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/19/2017

Number: 12

We traveled from Osceola, WI to Mellen, WI (almost to Lake Superior). There were monarchs to be see as we traveled the entire distance. When we spent time at Copper Falls State Park, we saw about a dozen. An earlier report I made for a friend reported many monarchs around the first part of August. At the time, I thought they might be the leading edge of a migration; now i'm not so sure. It's possible that some of them migrated and some of them reproduced. The numbers of monarchs I have seen that day and since indicates to me that there are many, many, many monarchs flying in the northern half of Wisconsin. If we are lucky enough to get good weather and decent north winds, we could have what I believe would be an excellent 4th generation heading to Mexico.
(saw a dozen on my back hill today and have just recently released about a dozen from caterpillars found 2-3 weeks ago......all of which fits in to a 4th generation)
