Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/20/2017

Number: 1

I saw one last big fat monarch caterpillar on Wednesday, but it is gone now, presumably having formed its chrysalis. I suspect that was the last caterpillar at my Monarch Waystation for this year. My milkweed is pretty much done, most plants are just stalks now with leaves yellowing and falling off. All I can find are milkweed tussock moth caterpillars on any of the plants that still have green leaves around my yard.

This is quite different from last year when I still had good numbers of monarch caterpillars all through September and well into October. My last one eclosed early November last year.
