Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/23/2017

Number: 2

It is well past sunset and yet the two ruby throat hummingbirds, who are preparing for their migration south, have been seriously nectaring on blooms and the feeder despite the rapidly approaching darkness. The last one to leave tonight was the immature male. The female departed the feeder just ahead of his arrival by 30 seconds or less.

Both hummingbirds appear to have become larger recently, bearing testament to the success of their nonstop feeding regimen to gain the weight necessary for the long flight to become.
