Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/23/2017

Number: 3

Three monarchs nectared on the milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) nonstop today. Each butterfly has been here for the last two weeks mating and laying eggs.

Increasingly, the monarchs have others to keep them company, including more than 30 painted lady butterflies, plus queen, Eastern black swallowtail, Gulf fritillary, numerous skipper species, cabbage white, grey hairstreak and cloudless sulphur butterflies.

Each of these visitors contributed to the transformation of the butterfly garden into an autumnal kaleidoscope of colorful flashes of perpetual motion.
