I was surprised to find 11-12 monarchs in the yard visiting mexican sunflower and zinnia beds a little after 6:30 this evening. About 10-15 minutes later they started drifting off toward the tree canopy but not to any particular tree. It was fun to watch them without all the other daytime activity on the flowers (painted ladies seem to retire earlier than monarchs!)
