Sightings report image

Date: 09/25/2017

Number: 1

2017 was a good year for Monarchs on our farm near Barnesville, MN. The attached photo is by John Jonas taken on the evening of 8-25-2017. We had both driven (200 miles) from the Twin Cities that afternoon and I sure hoped the Monarchs were still around as I had reported a roost 2 weeks earlier. We caught them at the right time both on the grassland and in evening roosts. It was a pleasure to watch a professional photographer in action and to see his reverence for the natural world. I just met John 1 year ago, we discussed the Monarch migration and decided we would meet at our farm during the migration of 2017. All the best to the Journey North staff, citizen scientists and the effort you have put forth, go Monarchs!
