Friends of mine in Port Hope, Ontario - about 1 hour drive east of Toronto on the north shore of Lake Ontario - took a drive along a relatively short area of the Port Hope waterfront where goldenrod and asters are in peak bloom. They counted 210 monarchs and numerous painted ladies.
