Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 09/27/2017

Number: 200

Myself and 6 others tagged 58 butterflies here in 35 minutes. We would have tagged more but we were out of tags! It was not uncommon for us to catch up to 5 monarchs in a single sweep of our net.

I counted 150 in 10 minutes along the waterfront. Two hundred butterflies is a conservative estimate.

It was sunny and warm, but the wind was coming from the West so they more mostly clinging to nectar plants along the waterfront.

Note that this area was restored this year as monarch habitat and is now a designated monarch waystation.
