Sightings report image

Date: 09/30/2017

Number: 6

There have been six juvenile male and female Ruby throats all week. One sub adult Rufous. When new ones come in all ruckus breaks out. Different ones keep coming and coming in all summer. We have to maintain 5 feeders north, south, west sides of house at all times. They stay up in trees when heat takes over during the day. Then around 4 they start chasing each other at feeders, plants blooming.
I have never seen this many Ruby throats come thru since August 3,2017 in that it has been a steady pace of over 40 different Rubies, with one adult Rufous coming thru early also.
They all like hanging basket of salvia Hot lips and hanging baskets Texas fuschia skull cap, mexican sage, but mostly Hamelia pattens.
Now we wait to see what Rufous return or sub adult stay the winter hopefully again. They are brown all over when young. Sometimes Rufous only appear at Christmas.
