Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/30/2017

Number: 2

Observed a single female/juvenile ruby throated hummingbird around 6:55 a.m. drink from a nectar feeder then she fed on a black & blue salvia and a firecracker. After a couple minutes she flew off. It was a very cool morning of 37 degrees at sunrise. I think she departed south as I did not see any other hummers until around 5:00 p.m. I think a straggling female/juvenile showed up on a nectar feeder at that time. She fed for a bit on a nectar feeder then perched for awhile in a maple tree. Several minutes later she tried another nectar feeder in the back yard. Didn't see her for awhile until she showed up on a nectar feeder in front yard. For a little over an hour the hummer took long drinks from the nectar feeder and perched in a spruce tree in between or fed on a black & blue salvia or firecracker in same vicinity. She was another late feeder not leaving until 7:09 p.m. Very little light in the evening sky.
