Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/30/2017

Number: 45

45 Monarchs were seen at the Tip at Point Pelee National Park arriving from the north late this afternoon into the evening. No roosts were located, only flitting about & settling individually in trees.
I believe these are new arrivals since the 2600 seen last evening were observed leaving, crossing the lake this morning before 8:30 am. Shortly after 9 am with an increase in the north gusty wind those attempting were returning to shoreline trees. The NE wind eased for an hour or so around 3 pm at which time monarchs were again seen crossing the lake.
Around 6 pm a few were seen attempting to cross but returning to trees ....one did venture out, gained altitude of about 200' above water & continued south out of view.
High of 17°c with mostly sunny sky. Beautiful sunset. Windy East side of Tip & somewhat calm West side.
