This afternoon, the number of monarchs in the garden increased from 6, the number reported yesterday, to 12-15. They primarily nectared on the tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) and secondarily on the blue mistflower, which is in full and magnificent bloom (Conoclinium coelestinum and Conoclinium greggii).
An extra bonus was the queen butterfly’s presence also increased from 2 to 6 today.
As was the case yesterday, today’s group of monarchs (and also the queens) behaved like migrators focused on a single act—to feed nonstop.
