Fall migration landing on the beach in NJ
Monarchs were flying from the ocean east toward land. Some were landing on the sand. We were there from about 11 am to 5 pm. About 25% were struggling. The winds were SE in the am shifting from the West in the afternoon. The weather was partly cloudy till late afternoon becoming clear and sunny. Temps were in the high 60s. Seems that the ones that were struggling were the ones glad to be in the sand resting. I wasn’t aware they liked salt, I thought they were looking for water.
