Six (6) monarchs were in the garden early this morning nectaring on the tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) in light rain. As the rain grew heavy, they continued to feed. It wasn’t until the showers became very heavy that some of them quickly retreated to the trees on our property. Surprisingly, 2 of them remained on the milkweed under leaves.

What was interesting is how they returned to feed off and on during the remainder of the day despite the nonstop rain, which was oftentimes heavy. I am hopeful the weather conditions improve and the wind direction eventually shifts such that they can resume their journey south.
